Hi, I’m Farhana! Originally from Bangladesh and now based in Leipzig, Germany, I bring the vibrant rhythms of South Asian dance to life through the classical elegance of Katthak and the soulful, rich folk traditions of Bengali culture.
About the workshop
For the workshop, I would love to introduce participants to the beautiful rhythms and movements of South Asian dance, with a particular focus on ‘Bengali folk and modern dance’.

‘Bengali folk dance’ originating from the beautiful
river-drenched region of Bengal spanning Bangladesh and West Bengal and India. These dances are a celebration of everyday life in the south asian subcontinent. Bengali folk dances are especially diverse, with different styles and rhythms reflecting local communities, stories and cultural traditions.

Recently, I also started my own dance community in Leipzig, The Rhythm Room, where I share South Asian rhythms through Bengali and Indian music and dance.

For me, dance is not only a form of movement but also a way of connecting people with culture, music and each other. I would be very happy to bring a little piece South Asian culture to Weimar and create a fun and welcoming experience for everyone, regardless of their previous dance experience.
